Went to the grocery store and got some fruits and vegetables to kick start my mission to become a healthier, non fast food, processed dependent. Hopefully FOR GOOD.
The list:
Bananas: Bananas get a bad rep because they are high in carbs and high glycemic sugar. But they are still a fruit! Andddd... unprocessed. I don't believe all the bash about bananas. Bananas are a good source of potassium, dietary fiber, manganese and vitamins B6 & C. They give you that burst of energy. You can do so much with bananas and they are VERY affordable. You can make bread, pancakes and cookies with them. When I say pancakes and cookies, I mean HEALTHY cookies and pancakes. (refer to my recipes section)
This is a bit extreme, but if I get the energy I need to workout and get into sports again. This is something to consider. Check out the video.
Also in the shopping cart:
Cucumbers, Celery, Yellow Onions, Oranges, Grapefruit, Sweet potatoes, Organic Spring Mix lettuce, green onion, turnips, carrots, radishes, pineapple. They were out of spinach, I was upset, but there is always tomorrow. We also got a frozen bag of fruit to make smoothies with along with Unsweetened Organic Almond Milk. We have natural sweetener, Truvia, to add some sweetness.
This should be a week's worth of food for 3 people.
Our total cost: $46.14
You may be asking yourself...what about protein? Let me just say that Almond Milk is a good source of protein and won't clog my arteries. You can also get protein from vegetables, especially leafy greens. We also have eggs in the fridge for Sophia, eggs are NOT that bad, they are powerhouse of disease-fighting nutrients like lutein and
zeaxanthin but like any animal protein you have to be careful of the cholesterol content.
I am excited! :) I mean, really, this is nothing new. I have done this lifestyle on the Bouari Diet, but because the Bouari Diet has supplements, certain foods were restricted. Even so, I had fantastic results. I don't want restrictions, I also don't want to depend on a weight loss program and spend hundreds of dollars. I just want to eat! And life live without having a constant battle with food! I don't need to list the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. They are pretty self explanatory.
I found a wonderful blog mentioning on how to STORE fruits and veggies to keep them from spoiling quick! How to Store Fruits and Veggies!
